Here is a very nice, simple cloth that I designed. It can be a dishcloth or a washcloth, depending on what you want to use it for! It uses mosaic knitting, a.k.a. slip-stitch colorwork, a.k.a. the easiest colorwork in knitting! You work with 2 strands of yarn in 2 colors. You do a row in one color, turn and work a second row with the same color. Then, you grab color # 2 and work the next 2 rows with that color, and so on and so forth. Simple!
Zebra Chevron Washcloth

– Do 8 rows of double linen st:
Row 1 (RS): k1, *sl 2 wyif, k2; rep. from * End sl 2 wyif, k1

Rows 7 & 8: with A, repeat Rows 1 & 2
Rows 9 & 10: with B, repeat Rows 3 & 4
Rows 11 & 12: with A, repeat Rows 5 & 6
– Repeat pattern 3 more times, for 4 repeats total.
– Do Rows 1 & 2 once more.
– Using Color A, do 8 rows of double linen st:
On the 1st row, k2tog first 2 and last 2 sts, decreasing back to 48 sts.
Row 1 (RS): k1, *sl 2 wyif, k2; rep. from * End sl 2 wyif, k1
Row 2: k1, p2, *sl 2 wyib, p2; rep. from * End k1
Bind off, break yarns and weave in ends! Scrub thoroughly!
Note: To not get the “braid” along the ending edge, just do another row of dbl-linen stitch and then BO on the wrong side.
How do you do your double linen stitch? I love your pattern. Thank you for sharing.
I figured it out. Thanks
This is beautiful!

Hi Norma! Thanks for your compliment, and please feel free to link to the pattern! 🙂
Thank you for your permission to link to your free pattern. It has finally been done. Norma
Just completed the Zebra Chevron pattern. What fun and very pretty. Thanks!
I’d love to create the second washcloth in the photo. Do you have a pattern for that?
The 2nd patt JUST got put up! Sorry it took me so long 😛 I think I was too busy knitting…..
Should the 1st and 2nd row of the double linen stitch rows also end with a knit (to make the stitches an even number)? Thanks
You’re right! I left that off from the instructions. I’ve updated the instructions! Thanks!
